When couples come to us choosing between Lake Como and Portofino, they usually expect a simple answer — which one is better.

The truth is, they are not comparable in that way.
They create completely different types of weddings.

As event designers, we don’t choose between them based on views or popularity. We choose based on how the space behaves, how guests move through it, and what kind of atmosphere it naturally creates.

Lake Como for your wedding: controlled, intimate, and structured.

Lake Como is one of the easiest places in Europe to design a calm, high-end wedding — but only if you understand how to work with it.

Most villas are private and self-contained. This gives you full control over the environment: arrival, sound, timing, and guest flow.

There is less external noise — fewer tourists, less unpredictability — which allows you to build a very precise event.

From a production perspective, Como works best when you don’t overload it. The landscape already does half of the work. What matters is how you support it:

  • clean, intentional decor (materials over decoration)
  • controlled lighting, especially from sunset into dinner
  • smooth transitions between zones (arrival → aperitivo → dinner)

Lake Como is the right choice if you want a composed wedding — something that feels calm, private, and fully curated.

Portofino: dynamic, social, and less predictable.

Portofino is a completely different environment.

It’s not a closed venue — it’s a living place. Boats arrive, people move, sound travels. Your wedding exists inside that energy.

From an event perspective, this means less control — but more life.

Here, the wedding interacts with the surroundings. And if you use that correctly, it becomes part of the experience rather than a limitation.

Designing in Portofino requires more coordination:

  • timing is critical (especially with light and guest flow)
  • sound needs to be managed carefully
  • logistics are tighter (access, setup windows, permits)

Portofino works best if you want a wedding that feels social, open, and naturally energetic — not staged.

What most couples underestimate

The biggest mistake is choosing based on visuals.

Lake Como looks elegant — but can feel too quiet if your guests expect energy.
Portofino looks vibrant — but can feel chaotic if it’s not structured properly.

The real question is: How do you want your guests to behave?

Do you want long dinners and deep conversations? Or movement, interaction, and a more dynamic atmosphere?

If you’re planning a small luxury wedding (10–15 guests), Lake Como is usually the stronger option. You can fully control the space and create a very intimate atmosphere where every detail is felt. With a smaller group, nothing feels empty — it feels intentional.

If you’re planning a wedding brunch, long aperitivo, or multi-location celebration, Portofino can work extremely well.

Guests can move between spaces, the day flows more naturally, and the atmosphere stays alive without forcing it.

But it requires precision — timing, logistics, and coordination need to be handled carefully.

Our approach at SENRISEA

We never start with “Lake Como or Portofino”.

We start with three things:

  • your guests
  • the atmosphere you want
  • and how complex you’re ready for the experience to be

Then we build everything around that — including the location.

Because a well-designed wedding is not about choosing a beautiful place.
It’s about making that place work for your event.

Let’s make the right decision — not just a beautiful one

If you’re choosing between Lake Como and Portofino, don’t base it only on aesthetics.

Tell us how you want your wedding to feel — and we’ll help you choose the destination that actually delivers it.
